A line directly from Freddie’s mouth. If you locked him in a room with a mattress and told him he can’t come out until he sleeps, this is the message he would give you.
This photo was referenced when shooting Freddie’s scene in the bathroom. Everything from the composition to the mood was used.
Going into Angel’s thinking moments, when she’s so submerged in the situation that she just needs a place to think away from the outside world, I found what I was looking for in this photo. Much like the older daughter in The Descendants diving deep in the pool to cry, Angel is hurt and needs to dive deep, but can only go so far in shallow water to think things through.
The scars in this photo were used as reference for make-up. I kept this photo near while writing the script and making production notes about Freddie because though Freddie doesn’t keep a razor around his neck, his dependency on it is so strong he might as well.
I gave this photo to the actress (Joey) playing Angel with the note: this is what Angel’s night will look like after Crossed Lines.
This is an old picture of the actor (Jason) playing Freddie. I was casting for a different project when Jason was suggested to me for that project. I was scrolling through his photos when this one stopped me. I was convinced I had found my Freddie. The shaggy dark hair, cigarette tucked behind his ear, and the look of being over this situation.
